Enterprise technology is in the midst of an accelerating process of integration and convergence. Learning technologies such as learning management systems (LMS) and learning content management systems (LCM) are being assimilated into integrated enterprise application suites. SAP, IBM, Oracle, Microsoft, Sun, Siebel, and PeopleSoft have all added new e-learning functionality to their product lines in the past year. They contend that, like other automated business processes, learning must be integrated into enterprise application suites. These integrated enterprise application suites catalyse migration away from courseware as a corporate performance improvement method and adoption of true performance support embedded in workflow. The enterprise customer demand for integration, optimization, and real-time collaboration has created an emergent technology and business process methodology referred to as the real-time extended enterprise.
