In this article the author comments on the changing role of meetings in professional training industry. Physical meeting spaces are gaining the features of online solutions, while online meetings are advancing way beyond two-dimensional, small-screen displays. Technology today lets some participants attend physically and others remotely, as well as creates meeting archives that can be browsed for specific content. Microsoft is developing technology to blend in-person and remote meetings. The Office of the Future project at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is developing panoramic displays that can offer a life-sized picture of the people one is meeting with remotely.
