The article reports that sustained investment in e-learning has shaped the workplace learning and performance (WLP), according to the 2007 State of the Industry Report in the U.S. It helped the learning function become an integral aspect of enterprise strategy to improve performance. According to the American Society for Training & Development (ASTD), it estimates that organizations had spent $129.6 billion on employee learning and development in 2006. It concluded that while it improved flfexibility, it also contributed to the rising infrastructure and development overhead costs.
