I spend a good chunk of my professional career training and certifying coaches in the Frame of Mind Coaching Method, which requires that clients journal with their coach throughout the coaching period. I often use a case study approach in the training process so that coaches can practice reading and responding to client journals in a way that moves the client forward. Here is one such example of a recent journal.

Here is the report I made on one of our employees who I believe is cheating the company…

On May 13, 2013 I did a thorough analysis of Stewart Dolman’s commission sheet. In my research I found 14 total entries to be incorrect between the dates of 2/21-5/2/2013.

Stewart incorrectly categorized these leads as new business, therefore receiving a higher commission rate than the correct label of retained business. The difference in total commission compensation was $475.45. He claimed $953 to be paid for the mislabeled entries, where the amount should have been $475.45.

Upon further research I discovered that multiple accounts were being created to make the entries seem like new business was being acquired as opposed to retained business, thereby inaccurately raising value of the real commission that was earned.”

Place yourself in the role of this client’s coach. How would you respond to this journal? What would you say? What further information would you want to know? How would you use this experience to move the client forward in his coaching journey with you?

Use the comment space below to provide a response to the client.
