Hello Fellow Millennials,

2012 Forbes article characterizes Millennials as creative, innovative, and adaptable techno-savvy multi-taskers who are as equally comfortable with learning as they are with teaching others. Sound familiar?

More important, this combination of attributes sounds perfect for working in the training and development industry. As a fellow Millennial, I understand the importance our generation can contribute to this field. Indeed, it is our time to shine.

So, do you know a Millennial that is a rising star in the industry? Then nominate them for ASTD’s One to Watch Program. ASTD wants to spotlight dedicated, forward-thinkers who are passionate about applying effective and creative solutions to the challenges facing their organizations—and our industry. If chosen as One to Watch, the young leader will receive

  • 1 year free ASTD membership
  • feature in T+D Magazine
  • profile in the One to Watch column.

To learn more about the One to Watch program criteria and to nominate someone, please go to ASTD.org/OnetoWatch.

Nandi Shareef is part of a new generation of workplace professionals who are paving a path of success for themselves in this industry. Her advice for young professionals just starting out in the field of training and development is to “really get in the trenches.” Educate yourself in the field with subject matter experts, and have them show you the industry’s cultural and evolution. You can read more about Ms. Shareef in her feature in the April 2013 issue of T+D Magazine.

Omari Aarons will be featured in the June 2013 issue of T+D. When asked what he finds to be the most critical piece to working in our field, Omari pinpoints development. He explains that although you may be working on technical skills or process knowledge, your real goal is to develop skills to help someone perform better. He tells T+D that the end result is “better leaders, better managers, better coaches, and that’s a wonderful responsibility to have.”

Join Nandi Shareef, T+D’s April 2013 One to Watch, for her session at ASTD 2013.

As a fellow Millennial, Nandi can relate to not always liking the term “Millennial.” During her session, she will challenge preconceived notions about our generation and present tools our organizations can use to retain and engage us—so we can help them drive long-term profitability and sustainability.
