Toni DeTuncq and I have been presenting at the ASTD International Conference & EXPO for more than 12 years on the topic of measurement and evaluation. Each year the audience at our presentations is even more knowledgeable about the topic than the year before. It’s been wonderful to see learning professionals’ capability and experience in measurement and evaluation grow over the years. We are excited about the opportunity to present together again at in Dallas in 2013.

Even more exciting is when participants in our sessions return the next year and talk to us about how they applied the skills when they got back to the job, and share the results they achieved. One year I had an individual come up after my ASTD ICE presentation to show me the scorecard he had created and implemented after attending my presentation the year before. Now that was rewarding!

This year Toni and I will again be presenting our signature presentation: Implementing Learning Scorecards: Tracking Activity, Efficiency, and Impact. This session continues to have 100-200 participants attend each year.  Both the macro and micro learning scorecards have received praise at these sessions, with participants commenting that they were tools they could immediately start using back on the job. They believe they will be well received in their organizations.

Toni and I created the concept for our new book, Integrated Talent Management Scorecards: Insights From World-Class Organizations (ASTD Press, August 2013) based on the content in our “Learning Scorecards” presentation. The scorecard case studies in the book are examples of how world-class organizations have used scorecards to show the business impact of various talent management initiatives. The talent management initiatives highlighted in the book include talent acquisition, competency modeling, leadership development, 360-degree feedback, coaching, mentoring, and succession management.

Toni and I are looking forward to continuing this discussion on the importance of talent management scorecards—here and at the conference
