Mary McNevin oversees talent acquisition, performance management, talent development, and succession planning and preparation at U.S. Venture.

How have the talent development functions at U.S. Venture changed recently?

We have expanded and enhanced our leadership development programs for all levels of leaders. We are creating customized, multiyear, individual development programs to prepare a pool of high potentials for future leadership opportunities.

What are the most strategic components of the talent management unit’s work?

Succession planning and leadership development are top priorities for U.S. Venture, where key senior leaders are expected to retire in the next five years.

Where does talent development fit into the organization chart? What is the relationship to HR and to the CEO?

My role falls under the chief people officer, who then reports to the CEO. U.S. Venture’s CEO and chief people officer are intimately involved in all aspects of the company’s talent programs. Together, they craft future roles for top talent and actively teach or participate in our leadership development initiatives.
