I left a decade-long career in public education for many of the same reasons that other highly qualified educators look to leave: less time, less control, more testing, increased danger, and always juggling one more commitment to a job that took over my life. I was constantly exhausted, anxious, and sick from stress. As an educator, I thought if I could just plan and schedule everything correctly I could do it all, but even meal prep, daily workouts, and meditation couldn’t rein in the monster my job had become. My career affected my health, family, and relationships, so in 2018 I decided it was time to look elsewhere.
