In 2019, the line between human thought and digital tools will continue to blur. Organizations are becoming increasingly interested in optimizing human labor by augmenting it with technology. This has profound implications for the HR industry—the future of this work will require these professionals to have a fluency in artificial intelligence while rethinking the work of HR to have a more human touch. Most companies first dip their toes into the AI pool in the realm of talent acquisition. There are significant, actionable results in using AI tools to hire, which increases productivity for hiring managers and delivers an enhanced candidate experience. The time to hire is also decreased, which means less down time for the company, increased productivity, and greater financial returns. However, AI is not going to replace the need for human skills; in fact, it might place them in higher demand. The World Economic Forum estimates 75 million jobs will be displaced as AI takes over routine aspects of work; however, 133 million new jobs will be created—all of which require finely tuned soft skills for success.
