Americans Are Increasingly Enjoying Working From Home During Pandemic

Friday, April 3, 2020

Although it was a quick transition to working from home due to the coronavirus outbreak, Gallup data shows many U.S. workers are starting to enjoy their new routines. Since mid-March, the polling agency has been tracking how U.S. employees have been handling the disruptions the virus has caused to their work lives. The percentage saying their employer has offered them remote work options or flex time has grown 39 percent to 57 percent in polling conducted from March 30–April 2. Now 62 percent of the U.S. workforce says they have worked from home during the pandemic—a number that has doubled since mid-March. And it would seem these employees are enjoying the freedom working from home affords them. Nearly 60 percent of those who have been working from home during the outbreak indicated to Gallup they would like to continue to do so as much as possible once things return to normal. By contrast, 41 percent said they would prefer to return to their more traditional work setups once things settle down.
