Building Resilience Creates Real-World Benefits

Wednesday, September 30, 2020

Resilience is more than a nice-to-have trait in a workforce. Bouncing back in the face of adversity and the ability to solve problems creatively have real-world, positive impacts on personal productivity and organizational bottom lines. One study found that organizations that actively work to increase the resilience of their workforce to the highest levels report 22 percent higher annual income than those with the lowest levels. This is due in part to the fact that resilience sparks innovation. In rapidly changing environments, the way to remain ahead is through consistent innovation. Building this desire for open-mindedness, enthusiasm for experimentation, and fearlessness in the face of failure will create teams that outperform their peers every time. Resilience also reduces burnout, which in turn reduces costly turnover. A recent study found that highly resilient teams report 52 percent lower burnout and are 78 percent less likely to leave their organization. And resilience isn't an inherited trait. It's not something you either have or you don't. The best ways to create resilience is to build robust support networks, promote employee wellbeing, and personalize growth opportunities.
