Growing a Diverse Workforce

Thursday, June 11, 2015

A culture of diversity and inclusion leads to innovation, better decision making, and a more effective utilization of human capital resources. A diverse workplace can also breed creativity, grow sales, and improve employee retention rates. It’s no surprise that many companies, particularly those in the notoriously homogeneous tech industry, are looking to become more inclusive. There are many ways to attract diverse candidates, but some are less obvious than others. One way is to identify different talent pools. Outside-the-box thinking in the recruitment process can help an organization find otherwise unreachable applicants who would bring with them new ideas. Another way to increase inclusion is to make diversity a part of a company’s brand identity. It’s not enough to simply state that an organization is diverse; it’s important to demonstrate a commitment to this value by hiring a staff that comprises different ages, races, genders, sexual orientations, nationalities, and backgrounds.
