Hiring Bosses

Tuesday, February 16, 2016

When we talk about hiring, it’s usually from the perspective of employers seeking out talented individuals to fill vacant positions within a company. And employers have more hiring tools at their disposal than ever before to seek out these candidates. However, what’s rarely talked about are the tools available to job seekers to determine if a potential boss would be a good fit for them. Candidates work almost exclusively on selling themselves, and companies work on selling the benefits and opportunities a career with the organization would offer. However, if the maxim "people don’t quit jobs; they quit bosses" is true, maybe candidates should be a little more selective in their application processes. For instance, job seekers should have a clear idea of what they want out of their career. Instead of focusing on tangible benefits like salary or title, they should instead focus on their long-term goals, and decide if the organization’s management will help them get there.
