Home Depot is joining the ranks of companies looking to go digital and mobile with their training. According to a recent statement made by the home improvement giant, it’s launched a new app that uses gamification strategies to help train new hires once they’re already on the job. The app includes product information and training programs that reduce the need for more traditional, classroom-oriented training. "Just as we're continuously evolving to meet the changing expectations of our customers, we're harnessing new technologies to do the same for job seekers," said Tim Hourigan, executive vice president of human resources. "This consumer-like experience helps us hire the best talent to serve our customers." The company is also introducing a self-service tool for mobile devices to help applicants schedule in-person interviews with hiring managers. The hope is this will help the company fill more than 80,000 vacant positions during the busy spring season. According to company materials, about 80 percent of job candidates have used the mobile scheduling tool, and last year they saw a 50 percent increase in candidates after going mobile with their application process.
