Motivation isn’t a steady stream; it ebbs and flows throughout our careers. Even the best members of a team can struggle with motivation for a variety of reasons. Sometimes they aren’t challenged enough. Sometimes they are overwhelmed. Sometimes their personal life is in turmoil. The point is, employees are humans first, workers second. When dealing with waning productivity and motivation, the first thing a manager needs to do is ask what’s going on and listen to the responses.
