Managing Remote Workforces During the Outbreak

Wednesday, March 18, 2020

Ready or not, businesses are grappling with the challenges of managing remote workforces. With uncertainty abounding, these challenges may seem daunting, but with the right technology and—more importantly—the right leadership, companies will manage during these trying times. First, leaders must remain calm and positive. Employees are more on edge than usual and many are falling victim to apathy. It’s understandable, though. When the world seems chaotic and uncaring, it’s difficult to remain engaged and effective at your job. Management’s role is to communicate clearly, emphasize their support, and highlight that their employees are safe and secure. Managers should also focus on achievable tasks during this time. Prioritize what can be done instead of focusing on what you don’t know and what’s out of your control. Help employees prioritize their workflows and remain supportive—and encourage employees to take care of themselves. Tell employees to take time off when they need it, to sleep well, to exercise often, and to engage in whatever activities make them feel secure and fulfilled.
