Money Is Key Retention Motivator in the Tech Industry

Tuesday, January 26, 2016

In the tech industry, it seems money is still the main motivating factor guiding retention rates. According to the Dice Tech Salary Report, the average tech salary jumped 7.7 percent from 2014 to 2015, the greatest year-to-year increase in a decade. "While salaries in some regions and industries experienced minor decreases between the years 2014-15, there was a strong upward trend in salaries across the country as a whole," according to the report, which advised readers to "expect that trend to continue into 2016." Apart from tracking salary trends, the report also examined what motivates retention in the tech industry. Not surprisingly, 17 percent of respondents cited increases in compensation as the primary motivator, but flexible schedules and interesting and challenging assignments were also big factors at 13 and 12 percent, respectively.
