Retaining Millennials

Monday, December 29, 2014

In 10 years, it’s estimated millennial workers will make up 75 percent of the workforce. This generation, like any other, is looking for fulfilling careers, but in order to keep them engaged, companies will have to think outside the box. “Millennials are the future of our companies, and are not entering a company like their parents did or anticipating they’ll stay at that company for their entire working career,” Jean-Louis Van Doorne, senior vice president at Dale Carnegie Training said. “They are hard workers who’ve been hit with many economic roadblocks, and they want to become engaged in their careers. Companies may need to adjust some practices to help encourage this engagement.” One way companies can engage millennials is by improving communication, by creating well-defined paths of top-down communication. Growth opportunities should also be attainable and numerous. Millennials aren’t planning on staying at one company for their entire career. Keeping them on board for as long as possible can depend on an organization's ability to help them set a clear path for advancement early on.
