The Importance of Positive Feedback

Monday, November 16, 2015

Leadership is critically important to the success of any organization, but the reality is that most managers will be in their roles for nearly a decade before receiving any kind of formal leadership training. But regardless of training, one simple way to become a better boss is to recognize exceptional work. Recognizing employees' accomplishments frequently will help employees feel appreciated and can boost engagement levels. Positive feedback is closely linked to higher employee morale levels and may even boost retention rates. In fact, one study conducted by the Harvard Business Review found a strong correlation between loyalty levels and acknowledgment. Of the more than 500 U.S. employees who indicated that their companies have recognition programs, 87 percent have a strong connection to their direct managers. Of the employees whose companies don't have recognition programs, only 51 percent said they have such a relationship with a manager. Mangers who acknowledge exceptional work will produce happier, more engaged employees.
