Training Is Still the Best Defense Against Cyber Attacks—Even When Teams Are Remote

Monday, April 13, 2020

While working remotely has been a growing trend during the past few years, the outbreak has forced many teams to go fully virtual without much time to prepare. This has created several challenges for management—not the least of which is cybersecurity. Just because workers are remote doesn’t mean the organization should be any more vulnerable to attack than it was when employees were coming into the office. With the right type of planning, the company can become more secure. First, a VPN should be set up. This virtual private network will shield your employees' digital interactions from the prying eyes of those on the open Internet and prevent breaches. It can also be helpful to test your security posture using simulated attacks. This will help leadership determine where security gaps may exist and where changes need to be made. Finally, this shouldn’t be a time where training falls by the wayside. Human error is often the biggest cyber threat to organizations, and with most teams working remotely, now is the time to ramp up training, not ease it back.
