Training Targets Sexual and Domestic Violence

Monday, June 6, 2016

Employee training helps create a more engaged, productive workforce, but can it tackle social ills such as sexual assault and domestic violence? Luxury conglomerate Kering aims to find out. By partnering with the National Alliance to End Sexual Violence and the National Network to End Domestic Violence, the company is giving its 1,200 employees training on how to best intervene if they suspect a co-worker is the victim of some type of violence. Most of Kering’s workforce is female, and the company has taken up initiatives aimed at improving the lives of women in the past. The training program was successful in France, Italy, and the United Kingdom, and focuses on combating stereotypes through education and creating a supportive workplace for survivors of battery or assault. “When one considers that up to 60 percent of victims in the U.S. lose their job due to reasons stemming from domestic violence each year, we cannot help but take action,” said François-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of Kering. “In providing our group’s employees with the support they require to support others, I hope we can build on the momentum of positive change taking place worldwide.”
