U.S. Millennials Weak on Workplace Skills

Monday, March 2, 2015

U.S. Millennials scored poorly on a test meant to assess the workplace skills and thinking abilities of people from 23 countries, according to a new study released by testing company ETS. The test, called the PIAAC, focused on literacy, math, and technological problem solving, with the goal of understanding how prepared workers are to perform in a complex, modern society. In every subject, U.S. Millennials, defined as people 16 to 34 years old,
ranked at or very near the bottom. For example, in literacy, U.S. Millennials scored higher than only three countries. “Abysmal,” said ETS researcher Madeline Goodman. “There was just no place where we performed well.”
