Workplace Violence Training Saves Lives

Monday, August 8, 2016

Workplace violence is an unfortunate reality in the modern world and one that managers should take seriously. Preparation and training for an unspeakable event now may save lives in the future. Many of these training programs focus on the acronym ALICE, which stands for alert, lock down, inform, counter, and evacuate. "Active shooter events and acts of terrorism are on the increase right now and we've trained in a concept called lockdown for about 25 years," said Joe Hendry, an Ohio police officer. "I've done my research on the traditional lockdown training and found that this [ALICE] training is necessary." The traditional rationale of hiding and keeping quiet rarely works; experts say the more active ALICE method has greater lifesaving potential.
