(Alexandria, VA), July 15, 2020—During a virtual awards celebration, organizations and individuals were honored for their excellence and contributions across the talent development field. The ATD Certification Institute recognized Paylocity with its Champion Award.

The ATD Certification Institute Champion Award is presented to an employer who demonstrates its commitment to and support of certification in the talent development profession.

Paylocity is a cloud-based payroll and human capital management software provider serving all business sizes from the just-starting-out local boutique to the rapidly growing multilocation franchise, and brokerage firms to associations. In 2019, Paylocity brought more than 70 L&D professionals previously assigned to individual business units throughout the company together into one department.

“The team had everything from individuals with master’s degrees in instructional design to ‘accidental trainers’ who came from various functions within the business but had no formal L&D training,” Paylocity Senior Director of L&D Joe Dusing said. “To create a unified L&D team, we decided everyone needed a baseline of knowledge and a common language that would help us communicate effectively with one another and our stakeholders.”

To achieve that goal, Paylocity researched various certifications and ultimately decided team members should pursue Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD) certification to ensure everyone holistically understood L&D. Last year, Paylocity supported 31 team members throughout the APTD process as it paid their exam fees, purchased training materials, and encouraged study groups.
