Can the Salutogenic Model Help Improve Healthcare Professionalism and the Patient Experience?

Liz Grissom is a partner and senior content strategist at Unboxed Technology. A member of the ATD Greater Richmond Chapter, she’s passionate about authentic communication, building the kind of training people want to take, and user-friendly platforms. Liz has worked closely with clients such as BH Media Group, Allianz, Comcast, and 24 Hour Fitness to develop programs and technology that train sales professionals, grow leaders, and onboard employees. She’s produced content in a variety of formats, from live action video and animation to instructor-led courses and online assessments—and is always interested in targeting how people learn best. She writes regularly for the Unboxed blog and takes a relational approach to problem solving. Before joining the Unboxed team, Liz managed field communications and served as an employee forum moderator of a large retailer. She honed her journalism skills as a contributing writer for Richmond Magazine, Richmond BizSense, and Ragan Communications. She holds a BA in English and Media Arts & Design from James Madison University and an MA in Writing & Rhetoric from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Liz Grissom

Mason Holloway has an extensive professional background, including 15 years in senior management and consultative positions working in business consulting, business operations, sales, and human performance improvement (HPI). He is a senior analyst, performance technologist, and experienced practitioner of the HPI processes. He has demonstrated skills and expertise in assisting companies in meeting and exceeding aggressive and competitive organizational goals and improving overall business results through HPI processes. Holloway's clients have included The U.S. Navy, National Technical Information Service, L.L. Bean, Social Security Administration, Accelera Corporation, ServiceMaster, and Microsoft. Early in Mr. Holloway's career he focused his skills in the development of marketing and sales programs working with Cellular One (now Cingular). Holloway went on to found and develop a nationally recognized publishing company, serve as digital content delivery consultant to a major content provider, and work with a team developing a contextual learning management system for the United States Government, among other achievements. As a respected consultant in the areas of training delivery and performance, Holloway applies the combination of his extensive real world business experience and acumen with a deep understanding of the fundamental principles of performance in the service of accomplishing business goals. Spanning the disciplines of performance, learning, and development, Holloway's work has included performance-based information taxonomies, performer-centric call center interface design, the development of a contextual learning engine, extensive front-end analysis, online content development and delivery, and performance-based curriculum development. Most recently, working with partner Dennis Mankin, Holloway led the design and development team in the creation of Performance DNA, the most comprehensive and effective tool set for analyzing human performance. Performance DNA has been co-copyrighted by Platinum Performance Group and ASTD and is the only methodology taught in the prestigious HPI certificate program. He graduated with from University of Maryland with B.A. in English and business and continued his graduate studies in management at James Madison University.

Mason Holloway

Bronson Janes has been employed in the training industry for 10 years as an instructional designer and trainer. He has worked as a contract instructional designer, creating e-learning courses for various clients including Deutsch Bank, Wachovia Bank, and others. He has also worked as a trainer for Xerox with clients such as Verizon Wireless and PrePass. Currently he is a training specialist for Weber State University’s information technology division, building the training presence to include both instructor-led and web-based platforms for faculty and staff. Bronson received a BA in English literature from Arizona State University and an MA in English and publishing from Rosemont College.

Catherine Nicholson is the co-founder of the Virtual Training Team, an organization that designs and delivers virtual workshops for companies around the world. With more than 10 years in the virtual world, she also trains face-to-face trainers in how to design and deliver interactive and engaging virtual training.Nicholson is passionate about learning transfer, creating curiosity, psychology, science, and business research. She wraps everything she learns from this field into practical tips and ideas that help people learn useful things quickly.Organizations that she has worked with include Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Thompson Reuters, Salesforce, Burberry, The Bank of England, Chubb, Accenture, EA Games, Maersk, Deutsche Bank, and Unilever.

Catherine Nicholson

Jonathan Rock is a GMP training specialist and instructional designer in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing. He is passionate about bringing compassion, humor, and surprise to compliance training. As an LMS administrator and e-learning developer for the past nine years, Jonathan has worked with various technologies including AICC, SCORM, and xAPI to capture and report learning events to defend his colleagues’ qualifications in regulatory inspections.Jonathan has experience designing, and building a team of trainers to deliver: new employee orientation, soft skills, and train-the-trainer courses. He has taken part in several xAPI cohorts, developing a K—12 environmental teaching game in the Unity 2D game engine, as well as tracking player choices in table-top roleplaying games like Dungeons and Dragons using xAPI statements.He has spoken at local ATD events on the topics of creating your own background art and sprites for e-learning (using PowerPoint) and where to find open source and free art and music assets to build game-based e-learning.Jonathan has a bachelor’s degree in secondary education (English) and an MBA from Western Michigan University. He loves harnessing the power of storytelling to form lasting memory and the use of video game mechanics to make compliance training engaging, challenging, and memorable.
