Susan Mann began work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in July 2008 and leads the global learning and development team. She has more than 30 years of leadership and HR/OD experience in profit and not-for-profit settings. Susan oversees talent development at the Gates Foundation, including coaching and a year-long cohort leadership and management program called “Gear Up,” which was recognized for excellence by the ICF Washington State chapter. Other recognition for Susan’s work includes serving as a Fulbright specialist at the New University of Lisbon in Portugal and receiving a Quality in Human Resource Practice award from College and University Professional Association-HR for designing a pioneering leadership development program. Susan earned her BA in psychology from the University of Washington and MS in management from Antioch University. She holds her credentials as an ICF coach and a Global Professional in Human Resources, and has presented at numerous national, regional, and global conferences.

Expanded Coaching Culture Drives Results

For healthcare organizations, a physician’s ability to quickly connect in a meaningful manner affects patient compliance, interprofessional teamwork effectiveness, and overall organizational safety and quality. The key is to bridge that skill to a consumer-centric environment where the challenge is communicating with others who do not have the same academic and clinical language base and context.
Learning and organization development (L&OD) professionals are sometimes challenged with how to connect and design for this learner population. There are professional cultural norms to consider as well as the ripple effects of lost patient time to complete education dependent upon the organizational structure. The question becomes, how does L&OD implement a valued educational experience for physicians and, more so, physician leaders?
During this webcast, we will explore the physician experience and discuss the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication in their everyday interactions. We’ll also look at the organizational context of safety and quality, and present successful and innovative techniques.

Susan Onaitis is founder and president of Global Learning Link, a New York-based firm that specializes in helping corporations improve the performance of their sales and management professionals. Susan is a corporate sales trainer, speaker, and author with extensive experience in sales, sales management, and sales training. After a successful 16-year career with Avon Products and The Knoll division of Westinghouse, she founded Global Learning Link in 1996. With an MEd in training and development, Onaitis offers the unique combination of frontline sales experience and educational background in instructional design/adult learning. She has designed and conducted training throughout the world for corporate clients including Colgate Palmolive, Estee Lauder, Prudential, Associated Press, and The Bank of New York Mellon. Susan Croft is an international public speaker, corporate trainer, and PR practitioner. She is a partner of ASC Training and Consulting, where she is responsible for sales, communications, marketing, and management training. Susan has also played a full and active role in public life and has focused specifically on women’s issues in the workplace. She is a member of the steering group for the European Commission’s Women in Industrial Research, a special project looking into ways to encourage more women to get involved in industrial research across the European Union. She is also former chairwoman of the London Fair Play Consortium, a joint venture between the U.K. government’s department for Employment and the Equal Opportunity Commission, whose remit is to identify and help remove the barriers to women playing a full role in the U.K. economy.
