ABOUT ME

I was born in Rhodesia Africa, a British Colony, today known as Zimbabwe.

I started my career as an apprentice Millwright and Machinist, gained my Trades Certification, and went onto becoming a general foremen in an engineering business hiring 60 full time employees in three business units; a machine shop, boiler and welding shop, and a tractor trailer shop. I then gained a Mechanical Engineering Diploma and moved onto a Government Inspector role, doing this for a year before immigrating to South Africa in 1980.

In 1983 I studied and gained my qualification in Human Resources Management similar to the Canadian CHRP Qualification. Over the next ten I advanced from an HR recruiter through to an HR and Industrial Relations Manager role working in the manufacturing, transportation and mining industries.

I then started specializing in Organization Training, Learning and Development (TLD), and gained several TL&D qualifications, I then created/owned a small consulting business in Johannesburg and ended up working full time for his largest client, the Anglovaal Group of Mines in South Africa, (34,000 employees spread over six mines). I advanced to Group Training Manager and held this position for three years prior to immigrating to Canada in 1997.

In Canada, I've worked in the post-secondary, manufacturing, mining, power utility and construction industries. I completed a Master’s Degree in Leadership and Training (MALT) from Royal Roads University in 2005. One of my achievements was developing the Train-The-Trainer, a four day program for the Mining Industry Training Adjustment Council of Canada (MITAC).

I have since held several Learning and Development Specialist (LDS) roles in Canada, including travelling to the US on business trips. Where’s I've worked I've left a legacy of best learning and development practices, that continue to be used after leaving the employer.
