Maureen Orey


Dr. Orey is an award winning international speaker and best-selling author with over twenty five years of experience in the fields of management, performance improvement, leadership, training and diversity. She has worked in many industries including Technology, healthcare, construction, hospitality and education. As President of the Workplace Learning and Performance Group, Maureen is dedicated to working with inspired individuals and organizations to help them improve their performance so they can achieve their desired results.  

A Certified Professional in Learning & Performance, Maureen is an expert facilitator and performance improvement coach. Her specialties include leadership, communication, diversity, customer service, performance management, organizational culture, managing change, training trainers and more. Maureen's students and clients consistently rave about her effectiveness, many calling her "the best trainer I've ever experienced" and “Her programs simply "Rock" and leave you a couple of feet off the ground.”

Maureen is the best-selling author of Communication Skills Training, published in 2005 and 2014 by ASTD Press, as well as the author of Successful Staffing in a Diverse Workplace published by Richard Chang Associates. She is a Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) and Doctor of Organizational Leadership. She also holds a Master's Degree in Education from the University of San Diego and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from San Diego State University.

She got her start in training and performance improvement at Sea World in San Diego over 25 years ago, and   has since worked with many large corporations, small firms, universities, government agencies, hospitals and more. Her client list includes Boeing, Sony Corp, Scripps Health, SHARP Healthcare, San Diego State University, the Scaffold Industry Association, the Association for Talent Development, the City of San Diego, the U.S. Marine Corps, and the US Navy among others. She was recognized as Outstanding Instructor of the Year for San Diego State University’s College of Extended Studies. In addition to her work in the private sector, she has taught at five local universities and is currently an Adjunct Professor teaching for UC San Diego and Executive Education for the Rady School of Management. 

Maureen is passionate about work-life balance, health, fitness and embracing the differences that make us strong. She stays fit with regular circuit training, martial arts and body building. Originally from San Diego, she is a proud mother of three children, and Past President of the Helix Charter High School PTSA.
