ESL Options in Manufacturing

Published: Wednesday, September 11, 2019

Hello there

Have you ever worked with any company to  offer English as a Second Language (ESL) training to your workforce? I am researching options for my company and would love to have your suggestions or any tips based on your experiences. Please share in the comment thread.

At Airlite Plastics Co., in Omaha, NE, we offer onsite ESL training on all 3 shifts. We contract with a local teacher who comes in several times each week. She primarily focuses on manufacturing jargon specific to our industry along with some conversational English.
Shawna, I would be interested in finding out more about this structure. I've looked into coordinating through SCC but couldn't nail anything down. I believe a private instructor might be more flexible. Also curious as to where she obtains her resources? I'm with Tecumseh Poultry/Smart Chicken in Tecumseh and Waverly, NE...not far from you.

Hello Cherita,
I run my own business where I provide English Language for the Workplace (on-site and remote training for employees). There are actually only a handful of us in the U.S that provide the very specialized instruction as this is a relatively new field and there a very few instructors truly trained in this area. For the last couple of years, we have provided training to the manufacturing sector. Feel free to contact me at adrienne@ellexcel.com and I would be happy to help.
Adrienne,
Thank you. I will absolutely be in touch.

The company I am currently with used to cosponsor English language classes in partnership with the local refugee center. That worked well for some of our employees and might be an option to look into.
Keith,
That is a great suggestion. Let me see if we have anything similar in the Houston area.
