Webex or Zoom Webinar

Published: Monday, June 15, 2020

Hi,  I work for a small non-profit organization (4 Programs staff) as  a Training Specialist.  We have a catalog of trainings that have traditionally been held in-person.  This puts undue burdens on our Family Resource Centers statewide.  We also host an annual in-person summit for approximately 200 direct-service providers with Keynote and Plenary speakers.  I'm moving us to a virtual environment and  have redesigned the trainings for virtual delivery.   The skill level of the trainers has been stand and talk at.  Due to COVID we have begun using Zoom meetings.  It's clear we should move to a webinar platform.  I would like to introduce producers, breakout rooms, polling, arrows and annotations, etc.   We're currently using Zoom meetings.  I'm partial to  Cisco Webex.

  • Does anybody have any input, experience or advice around this?

  Thank you, Deborah Ross

Deborah, you've probably selected a new system by now, but I wanted to share this resource in case it would be of good use! I've worked with Cynuria Consulting on putting together an infographic that compares the the different tools that you can use for virtual training. There's a lot of good information in the blog post as well:

We are using Microsoft Teams for our remote needs. I've been a part of both WebEx and Zoom meetings, but have more experience with Microsoft Teams. We also have Microsoft Forms in our Microsoft package, which I have used extensively for digital sign-in sheets, polls, and survey's. Microsoft Teams recently added new features such as raise hand and to export the meeting participants list to Excel if we needed to capture who attended the meeting or training.

My company uses WebEx as well and I'm not fond of it for training. I've used GoToMeeting once or twice and I really liked my experience with that. It had the ability to do breakout rooms as well as group whiteboarding.
Good Luck!
Christian
