Banking Personas

Published: Monday, October 19, 2020

I am looking to enhance our "skills practice" exercises with personas that reflect our bank's current consumer market. Ideally, this will create a more realistic learning experience. Does anyone utilize personas in their training? Do you recommend a software company or site to partner with to create the personas? I would welcome any additional tools you use to enhance the virtual, skills practice (role-playing) experience.

Hi Heather - ATD published an issue of TD at Work last year on learner personas: https://www.td.org/td-at-work/learner-personas-beyond-demographics. We also have a member job aid from the same author that provides a template for creating learner personas: https://www.td.org/job-aids-tools/learner-persona-exploratory-tool.

I have used personas in both instructional design and as a marketing tool for my local ATD chapter. I have not used any external tools to create personas. I do believe it is important when you create personas to be as diverse as possible, and not just in race and gender. Include age, and ethnicity. Are all your persona names Anglo-Saxon? Are all your personas middle-aged suburbanites? To achieve the best results, look at the community around you and do your best to reflect what you see.
Thank you, Tim. I found a template that I am going to utilize. I like your suggestions for keeping it diverse. I linked with my Marketing team for a briefing on our customer profiles.
