Industry Disrupted - Learning & Development Post COVID-19

Published: Wednesday, June 17, 2020

We keep hearing about industry disrupters, and the coronavirus pandemic is a distributor for the learning and talent development industry. This pandemic has cost L&D companies and professionals millions if not billions of dollars in canceled projects and contracts.

The way we’ve done business in the past is no longer valid today, and most likely, it will be less relevant in the future. As we learn more about the new norms, we will need to rely on the learners themselves to take on more responsibility for their own learning and growth. More Action Learning approach, more pre and post work, and more assignments.

What other changes should we expect in our industry?

In some ways the biggest changes will be the lack of changes. People are already complaining about "Virtual Fatigue".
Millions of man hours have gone into taking instructor led talk and listen trainings and making them into click and listen trainings.
Don't get me wrong, I do think the Virus will help accelerate the movement to Performance Support and Workflow Learning. Unfortunately there is so far to go that I fear the changes will not come quick enough.
