ATD Research Presents Developing New Managers

Wednesday, April 24, 2019

High percentages—some estimates say 60 percent or more—of first-time managers don’t succeed. Even those who remain in their positions can create long-lasting damage through ignorance of proper management techniques or negative leadership behaviors. When ATD examined development for first-time managers, the research found that many organizations are achieving strong results in developing new leaders. Most participating organizations offer structured development programs or individual training assets specifically for new managers. However, it also revealed issues and missed opportunities which could, if constructively addressed, enable talent development professionals to better prepare first-time managers for the challenges they face. This webcast will present highlights from the research, focusing on skills development for three types of new managers: -people managers -sales managers -virtual managers.
