Getting and Keeping Attention: Lessons From Marketers and Storytellers

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Devices used by fiction writers and marketers can be of great benefit to instructional designers. Our goals are often the same: to engage the reader or listener and incite them to action. This session will show you how to use teasers and segues, two of the most common devices used in storytelling and marketing, in a technical context. The proper use of teasers can be used to 'sell' a learning event, and encourages learners to stay engaged and alert throughout a live e-learning or classroom session. A thought-provoking question before a break or at the end of the day hooks learners so that they return to the training program interested and ready to learn.
