Highlights From ATD's Performance Management Research

Tuesday, April 14, 2020

Although performance management is a valuable process for developing and motivating employees, research has found that nearly all managers (96 percent) are dissatisfied with their organization’s performance management process. There is clearly room for improvement in performance management (defined as a process that involves setting goals and expectations for employees, giving employees feedback on their performance, and addressing performance outcomes). A recent ATD survey found that less than half of respondents felt their organizations’ performance management processes were effective in any specific area. This webcast will share findings from ATD’s research report Performance Management: Driving Personal and Organizational Growth to offer best practices in performance management. You will learn how performance goals are typically set and how frequently managers and employees have conversations about performance as well as how frequently performance is formally assessed. The webcast will highlight the methods organizations use to address performance, topics typically covered in performance management training, and common barriers to an effective performance management process. The webcast will also offer advice about overcoming these barriers and will share which performance management practices are associated with higher effectiveness.
