ASTD 2014 Preconference Learning

ASTD’s preconference certificate programs caught my eye—particularly the Sales Enablement Certificate, Developing High Performing Sales Teams, May 2–3.

One reason I am attending is because of instructor Tim Ohai, an industry peer who I have been following for some time. He is passionate about knowledge sharing and I know him as someone generous in the sales enablement world with ideas and helpful strategies for success.

The other reason is simply because really strong sales teams are difficult to create; there are a lot of moving parts and areas that affect success. If you have all key components in place except one, the team will most likely be unsuccessful. If two or three areas become a challenge as you build your team, it may be doomed for failure.

ASTD came up with a World Class Sales Competency Model as a result of sales changing over the past 20 years. I am also curious to see how this model is presented in light of the advent of social selling.

With any learning program, I always aim to take two or three new ideas from it. If I can do that as a learner, I know it will help me be a better teacher and conveyer of ideas. I understand the quality ASTD offers, having attended various events over many years. As a writer of sales effectiveness and someone who is committed to helping companies grow, I hope to gain a better idea of how ASTD is guiding sales education so that I can recommend this certificate to others.
