Do you believe in training/teaching magic?
I’ve heard trainers and teachers say, “I follow the facilitator’s guide/lesson plan until the magic happens, then I have to go where the magic takes me.”
I had a boss who would say to trainers, “Go out there and do your magic.”
These sound great. Sometimes I even think I understand what they mean.
That change of expression some learners have when you just know they are having their AH HA Moment can feel magical.
That day where you get an assessment back dreading the result this one learner will inevitably have, and he gets a perfect score, can certainly feel like magic.
I worked with a teacher in my distant past who knew the material so well, he never felt like he had to prepare, and yet somehow his lessons seemed to magically come together.
Several jobs ago I was in on a hiring process, and I heard The Big Boss say, “That guy just doesn’t have the training magic.” Using this as the sole reason to not hire him.
What do you all think? Have you seen real training magic? If so what is it?
