SCORM. xAPI. cmi5. So many learning standards choices, and, for many, so much dread around choosing. In the e-learning standards world, SCORM is king, but it is limited in terms of what data it tracks, requires an LMS or a system to play it, and only operates within a browser context. xAPI can track anything and works with newer technologies, but without cmi5, it doesn’t include instructions for launching with an LMS and isn’t as widely adopted. A great meet-in-the-middle option is cmi5, but adoption rates are still low.
