ATD conference proposals are selected through a competitive peer review process where the ATD Program Advisory Committee advises on selections to create a balanced and diverse educational program for the conference.
Role of the Program Advisory Committee (PAC)
The Program Advisory Committee comprises individuals from the field with significant experience in the specific track areas. Committee members are assigned to each track and review all complete proposals submitted. A chairperson assists with coordinating the committee's activities.
Review
The selection process follows a rigorous multi-phase peer review process to select recommended proposals.
Proposals are selected based on the information submitted. Submitters are expected to follow the instructions carefully and supply all requested information. Missing or incorrect information could make the proposal ineligible for consideration.

Selected track and area of focus
Speaker expertise and novelty of the proposed topic and approach also factor into the review.
Proposals are evaluated using the following additional criteria:
Completeness, accuracy, and clarity of the proposal; proposals that do not follow the instructions will be ineligible.
Content that is current, relevant, and practical.
Programs and initiatives that demonstrate measurable business impact and results.
Clear, specific, and informative content directly linked to the learning outcomes.
An agenda or session outline that reflects the session type, is achievable in the time frame, indicates how participants will be engaged in the session, and ensures the outcomes for the session can be met.
Practical, achievable, participant-centered learning outcomes aligned to the session type
A balanced slate of speakers representing diverse backgrounds, viewpoints, organizations, and internal/external practitioners.
Quality of the submitted ancillary materials (PowerPoint and speaker videos, as appropriate)
Note: First-time speakers are required to submit a video. However, ALL speakers are encouraged to submit a video. This video should demonstrate your speaking ability and how you would engage with an audience.
Additionally, the speaker’s previous experience speaking at ATD conferences may be factored into the selection criteria.
Session Scheduling
ATD will determine the days and times that sessions are scheduled to achieve a balanced conference program. Some speakers may be asked to repeat sessions that are considered especially relevant or popular.
Honoraria, Travel Expenses & Complimentary Registration
ATD is a nonprofit educational association with a responsibility to its members to manage its resources carefully. Delivering an education session is voluntary and unpaid. The speaker pays for their own travel and living expenses. ATD provides one complimentary full conference registration per speaker.
