Anna Garza is a Talent Development Partner in the USA. She earned the Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD®) credential in 2021.

Why did you pursue the CPTD?
I wanted to challenge myself to be proficient in the wide breadth of TD capabilities.

How have you benefited from the credential—professionally and/or personally?
Obtaining the certification helped set me apart when applying for a new role at my dream company. It also built my confidence when stepping into this new role.

What advice would you share with others considering certification?
Take the prep course! Give yourself time to internalize the material because it’s useful beyond the exam.

How do you think certification helps the talent development field?
It provides credibility and confidence for those of us that must build key relationships across all leadership levels in an organization.

How did your employer support your pursuit of the credential?
They paid for it and gave me the space to study for it.

What does having your credential mean to you?
I’m proud of my field, my experience, and my ability to support and grow talent.

How did you get into the talent development field?
A friend recommended an entry-level job as a trainer.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
There’s no organizational change—just individual change. Focus on yourself as an individual, and then on equipping individual leaders who will in turn influence their teams and move the company forward.

What is a great book you’ve read recently?
Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek

What is your favorite hobby or pastime?
Pickleball!
