This photo appeared in the June 1961 issue of the Journal of the American Society of Training Directors. This photo illustrated just one of many of the machines being used by companies to train employees in the 1960s. This machine, known as the "Mentor," showed 16mm film clips.
These machines gave individuals the opportunity to learn on their own. As Jerome P. Lysaught wrote in the article, the minimum requirements for an individual teaching machine were versatility, standardization, and inexpensive.
