What is your role in planning ASTD 2013?

  • Jennifer: I plan the exposition, conference shuttles, and the hotel room block. I also manage logistics for ASTD Awards and work closely with our conference sponsors.

  • Karen: I manage logistics for conference registration, food and beverage services, and utilities. I also work closely with the Dallas Chapter on planning our volunteer needs and assignments.

What is your favorite thing about ASTD conferences?

  • Jennifer: After a year of planning, it’s always fun to see everything come together. Being the expo planner, I especially love seeing the transformation of the exhibit hall. And, this year, through the clear walls at ASTD Central located just outside of expo, members will be able to see firsthand the amazing exhibit setup process.

  • Karen: I love seeing the end result and the smiles and satisfaction on the faces of our attendees after they attend an educational session that they really connect with. I am particularly looking forward to this year’s keynote speakers, Sir Ken Robinson, John Seely Brown, and Liz Wiseman.

What is new for the 2013 conference?

  • Jennifer: New this year is ASTD Central. Conveniently located at the front of the expo hall, it will be a one-stop spot for attendees to learn about all of the products and services available to them as members of ASTD. There is also a Cyber Center to help attendees stay connected to the office, and a theater where presentations will happen throughout the day. It will be a great space for attendees to learn and network throughout the conference.

  • Karen: Also new this year will be the ability for international attendees to print a Certificate of Attendance at a stand-alone kiosk in the Global Village at their convenience. We will also be reorganizing and streamlining the registration counters, allowing for a more seamless check-in process.
