When Callan Swaim moved back to the US after several years working in London, she was eager to continue growing her career in learning and development—and to make a meaningful impact. But starting over in a new city meant rebuilding her professional network from the ground up, with few connections and limited insight into how learning leaders were advancing their teams and strategies.

That’s where ATD made the difference. Through member events and conversations with professionals across industries, Callan gained visibility into what leading organizations were doing to strengthen learning cultures. She began to see how her own skills could scale to bigger opportunities. Access to real stories, shared challenges, and credible industry data helped her translate ideas into impact within her own company.

To further strengthen her role, Callan pursued ATD’s Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD ® ) certification. The credential gave her a shared language to communicate value with senior leaders. Combined with the credibility of ATD’s network, it opened doors to national collaborations and leadership opportunities—benefiting the organization she supported.
