“Wear the change…Be the change…You are the change.”

This mantra reminds me of the scene in the movie Miss Congeniality when Sandra Bullock realizes a bomb is in the crown she is wear—after Victor Melling (played by the ever wonderful Michael Caine) tells her to “wear the crown, be the crown, you are the crown.” I know, I know…more cheese.

In reality, OD practitioners often are in the business of being a change agent. This role is one that influences an individual, a group, or an organization toward desired change.

The change agent plays a significant role in leading the change effort or collaborating with the team assigned to initiating change. In the context of creating an environment that is measurement friendly, this also involves someone to lead this effort and manage the change process within an organization.

Building a measurement culture should be a strategic change. Several key aspects to consider include:

  • Set the stage with the “why” behind building a measurement culture.

  • Ensure the change effort needs to be in synch with what’s important for the organization.

  • Involve someone that is senior in the organization, someone that has clout to pave the way for building a measurement culture

  • Include action planning and feedback to keep momentum in building a measurement culture.
