Creating Agility: Why Scalable Training Software Is Critical

Last year was filled with tight corners. This year allows us to look back at those skid marks on the road, think about what made us make those turns, and consider a strategy geared toward putting the unexpected at the center of an agile and predictive approach to the next lap.

The unexpected has now become the expected. This means your organization is relying on the bottom-line impact more than it ever has had to:

  • Help employees upskill to tackle more unique challenges.

  • Provide learning strategies that support the growth of dynamic leadership.

  • Build an organizational culture that can thrive through deep change.

As training professionals, our learning initiatives support the growth of organizations through people. One of the often overlooked components of developing people, however, is the role that technology plays.

If your training team can’t function at a highly agile level because you’re accessing a technology ecosystem of disconnected tools to manage training, how are you supposed to create learning strategies that help your learners become more agile and adaptable?

Agile Training Software Is a Learning Program Imperative

Until recently, learning technologies had been designed to fill single stopgap solutions rather than provide scalability and agility alongside the growth of training programs. As a result, most learning and development teams used several software tools to manage training operations, deliver training, and analyze training effectiveness.

It works manually, in a temporary fashion. But when you must connect data sources, perform repetitive tasks, and keep data housed in spreadsheets, this hands-on approach can inhibit your team’s ability to respond quickly.

When your learning tech is agile, your team is future-proofed. You’ll be ready for change because you’re built for it. Take, for instance, virtual instructor-led training (VILT) in 2020. Shifting to VILT required software capable of easily making that shift. Great. But what needed to happen from a reportability standpoint? How did reporting on the effectiveness of your VILT change when you had to shift your learning environments?

With training software that places a rich data model at the center, it’s possible to quickly shift and still capture the data and analytics that show your impact.

Where It All Begins: Training Software Built for Agility

Building agility into your training operations with learning tech starts with evaluating the systems you have in place and asking four questions:

  • Are your systems deeply integrated with one another to support data integrity?

  • Does automation drive efficiency and push and pull data between systems?

  • Can you configure your systems to your strategy so you can scale effectively?

  • Is insightful reporting possible or is your data locked into preset fields and outputs?

Departmental counterparts such as L&D, marketing, sales, and finance have had access to platform systems for some time. These systems manage all their data, integrate with their other critical systems, automate key functionality, and report on the impact their work has on the business at a deep level. Until recently, no training software has been capable of providing this type of agility to L&D teams.

The L&D Paradigm Shift: Leading Strategies, Tools, and Perspectives for Building Training Agility With Software

The training function is entering a new paradigm in which training teams will play a critical role in transforming the way organizations conduct business. Training professionals have always been asked to demonstrate the effects of their departments on their businesses and now can do so in more sophisticated ways and make more significant contributions by leveraging software.

We wrote this guide to be a resource for training professionals to use as they look to navigate these uncharted waters and make their software work for them.
