ASTD 2014 TechKnowledge was held in Las Vegas, U.S. last week. More than 1,500 training and development professionals came together to focus on the intersection of technology and training. Of these 1,500 professionals, about 200 were international members from more than 30 different countries. Thus, attendees were able to interact with people from all around the world, gaining insight to world views on technology and training. They learned how to apply technology to the learning function, and also about current trends in the learning and development industry. Leading professionals shared best practices, tips and techniques, and solutions that help drive an organization to the top.

The conference kicked off with opening keynote speaker Jeff Dyer, an internationally recognized expert on organizational change and strategic alliances. He emphasized the need for innovation in the L&D industry, and how to enhance an organization’s business strategies by incorporating technology and innovation. Amy Jo Martin, founder of Digital Royalty, shared how organizations can leverage social media to their advantage. And finally, Kate Hartman challenged attendees on how they relate and communicate with people from around the world.

International attendees at the conference had two exclusive sessions, the International Focus Group and the International Networking Lunch, which provided opportunities to network with one another while also sharing their best practices. Approximately 80 L&D professionals left with expanded global networks and fresh concepts for implementation within their organizations.

Technology continues to change the way people work and how they learn.  The learning and development industry must also continue to adapt and innovate through technology to meet the needs of a dynamic and technologically advanced workforce.  Thank you to everyone who attended the conference, making it another successful event.
