According to ATD research, only 27 percent of organizations currently include coaching as part of their talent development efforts, even though it’s widely known that coaching and providing feedback are the top ways to improve performance.
No matter your role, gaining deeper knowledge of the competencies and principles of coaching can only help your organization, and its people, get desired business results, achieve goals, and move the organization forward in an increasingly competitive, chaotic, and globalized world.
ATD’s Coaching Certificate Program is a good place to start. In the two-day workshop, learners are grounded in coaching competencies and tools, as well as provided with a model to have effective coaching conversations. Through interactive activities and discussions, participants have the opportunity to practice the coaching model and learn the language of coaching to apply in a variety of work-related interactions.
Those new to coaching will benefit from a formal introduction to the topic, while those who are experienced coaches, whether internal or external, will get a great refresher of coaching competencies to ensure that they have the tools needed to be effective as a professional coach.
While this is not a course that applies toward any type of coaching credential, it is an excellent way to prepare for taking the next step to certification, if that’s your goal. Regardless, the course can certainly help you define coaching, what it involves, and what makes sense for your organization in terms of an approach to coaching.
Take a look at upcoming sessions of the Coaching Certificate and hear more from Lisa in this podcast on the importance of coaching.
