Everyone gets a bit depressed from time to time. Whether it's situational or biological, mindfulness meditation can help you get up out of your slump. In fact, researchers have found that serotonin levels can be significantly increased through the practice of meditation.
Don’t know where to start? Here are two tips:
1. Start with two minutes a day.
Begin with small steps that you can’t talk yourself out of because you don't have enough time. Try two-minute meditations that focus on breathing or relaxing and get comfortable with the stillness of meditation.
2. Meditate at the same time every morning or every night.
Committing to the same time can make all the difference when starting a new habit. Whether it’s first thing in the morning, right before you go to sleep, or another time that works best for you (for example, at work), learn to link a certain time of day with a quick two-minute meditation.
While this sort of meditation isn't a substitute for proper medical assessment and care, it can certainly provide a great way to improve your health, both mentally and physically.
