Spring is here! The weather is warmer, the days are longer, and it’s time to get out and about—which I can’t wait to do. Indeed, this spring I am taking several trips in an effort to bring you the latest trends in human capital and to tell you first-hand what today's thought leaders are saying. So I’ve hit the road, and I’m curious to see how many ASTD Human Capital Community of Practice members I will meet along the way!
To start, I’ve just returned from the i4cp 2013 Annual Conference, where I had the unique opportunity to listen to influential leaders in human capital management challenge commonly held beliefs about HR. One prominent speaker was Dr. Laurie Bassi, co-author of Good Company: Business Success in the Worthiness Era. Bassi spoke about two significant HR standards-setting initiatives that are expected to create guidelines for reporting on human capital metrics to investors. Fortunately, Bassi will be at ASTD 2013. so please be sure to add “The Good Company Index: What Your CEO Needs to Know” to your schedule. She also will be signing books in the Bookstore immediately following her session. Still want more? Bassi will lead a webinar April 10 on the technology-fueled people power that is fundamentally changing all of our relationships with the companies in our lives.
On April 8-10, I’ll be in Orlando, Florida, for 2013 HCI Human Capital Summit, and I’m bringing the ASTD Press mobile bookstore! We’ll have the latest books relevant to our field, including those by the conference's featured speaker Nate Silver, Dan Pink, and Liz Wiseman. ASTD Human Capital Community of Practice members will receive a special 10% discount on all purchases. Simply mention that you read it in this newsletter and give us the code “HCI10”.
Next up, on May 2-3, I'll be speaking on human capital trends in learning and development at the Gartner for Enterprise IT Leaders HR Professionals Peer Forum. These twice yearly, two-day, peer forums provide HRIT senior executives with the opportunity to share their most pressing management initiatives and challenges—and come away with practical solutions.
Finally, I round out my travel with the 2013 ASTD International Conference & Expo, May 19-21. This year we’ll have 60 speakers dedicated to the Human Capital Community of Practice. If you haven’t registered yet, be sure to do so before the advanced rates expire March 31st. Individuals can save $450 off of onsite rates!
