We are fortunate to work with some of the leading facilitators in the worldwide talent development community. Our facilitators bring a wealth of experience and insight to their classrooms. We’re spotlighting their stories here.
Meet Kiran Mohan!
How many years have you been a facilitator? Did you find the career path, or did it find you?
I’ve been a facilitator for over 20 years; this role found me—I started off facilitating workshops as part of a career transition program and loved it so much that I sought out a role as a facilitator of new manager onboarding and leadership development. I spent several years doing this and then started developing programs; this was the catalyst for launching my own business where I now do a variety of things around leadership development and change management work, including facilitating, developing programs, creating leadership models, and supporting organizations in change management.
What is something you wish you knew before becoming a facilitator?
To trust myself and BE myself. Authenticity is important for learners to trust you and it makes it so much easier and enjoyable to facilitate.
What is your go-to facilitation tool?
Asking powerful questions—and allowing learners to share their thoughts and stories before jumping in with mine.
How has hybrid learning changed how you facilitate?
It really hasn’t; I believe that we need to show up the same way for our learners, whether face-to-face or online. Yes, you need to be able to multitask a bit more in the virtual world. However, the prep and presence are still the same.
What is your best piece of advice for anyone looking to become a facilitator?
I think I answered this one already—trust yourself and be yourself. It’s not about you; it’s about your learner.
What is your favorite part about being a facilitator?
Watching shifts in people’s perspectives and beliefs.
What is your favorite song these days, the last great book you read, or your favorite hobby outside of work?
I love to cook and enjoy trying out new recipes.
How have your facilitation skills and training aided you in other aspects of your personal or professional life?
I use my facilitation skills when conducting meetings, working with clients to solve issues and brainstorm solutions, and in many other aspects of my world.
